Abstract:
An original method to determine the thermal and cooling loads of the broader region of Athens is presented in the present work. The buildings in the area are classified in various categories related to their energy behaviour, year of construction, and geometrical characteristics. The sampling taken accounts for over 1% of their total amount. Basic models of statistical analysis were used for the treatment of the accumulated results from the numerous buildings audited. The density of buildings in the broader area of Athens as well as their size of cover, weight, volume, and power/energy consume are evaluated. These results were derived under the assumption that the buildings during the periods of winter and summer function according to the thermal comfort zone conditions stated in the ASHRAE standards.
