International Review of Economics & Finance, 2025, vol. 102, issue C

Abstract: The study utilizes data from 30 provinces and municipalities in China (excluding Tibet) spanning from 2011 to 2022 as a sample to empirically explore how digital finance and social security expenditures affect farmers' entrepreneurship. The empirical findings reveal that digital finance stimulates farmers' entrepreneurial activities; social security expenditures also incentivize farmers to engage in entrepreneurship; social security expenditures moderate the relationship between digital finance and farmers' entrepreneurship; the effect of digital finance on farmers' entrepreneurship differs across various regions; the impact of social security expenditures on farmers' entrepreneurship also demonstrates regional heterogeneity; and the influence of digital finance on farmers' entrepreneurship exhibits a threshold effect, varying with changes in regional economic conditions.
