Abstract:
The Business Outlook Scenarios Survey (BOSS), launched in June 2024, is a new monthly longitudinal survey capturing the perceptions of Australian business financial decision makers, with a particular focus on the future trajectories of key macroeconomic variables such as interest rates and inflation, as well as firm-specific indicators like sales, employment, costs, and prices. This paper outlines the survey’s design and core questions, presents headline time-series indicators for the Australian economy, and examines alternative question designs and data constructions.
