Cycles and structural changes in the post-war Brazilian economy

Abstract:
The objective of this essay is to describe and analyze the main trends and transformationsin the Brazilian economy in the period following the Second World War. The firstpart briefly outlines the basic antecedents of Brazilian economic growth in recent decades, aswell as the main structural problems that are present today. It also suggests the fundamentalcharacteristics that result from the presence of two key players in the Brazilian economicscenario: the State and transnational corporations. The Second Part describes the major cyclesobserved in the post-war period, analyzing the factors and conditions that explain themain turning points or phases. The last section outlines the main characteristics of the recentevolution of the Brazilian economy, as well as the conditions for an alternative developmentstrategy.
