The road ahead: advancing economics education research

Abstract: This conclusion synthesizes key arguments from the book, emphasizing the need for causal research to address disparities in economics education. It first points out what we currently know, and that this is almost exclusively descriptive of what is done in the economics classroom without providing an understanding of the why. The chapter reiterates the value of the relevance, belonging, and growth mindset framework and backwards design in creating effective interventions and aligning pedagogy, assessment, and content. The chapter identifies enduring questions about student persistence, diversity, and outcomes, advocating for a cohesive research agenda to advance economics education.
