Chapter 7 in Handbook of Higher Education and Disability, 2023, pp 75-86 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an overview of Vietnamese students with disabilities regarding their participation in higher education and postsecondary vocational education. Several important pieces of disability and related legislation are covered to ensure readers understand Vietnam’s fundamental framework of disability policy. Unlike higher education institutions in more developed countries, Vietnam’s universities and colleges have encountered many challenges concerning supporting people with disabilities (PWDs) attending higher education, mainly due to financial constraints and limited well-trained staff and lecturers. The roles of some international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are also included because they have historically supported Vietnamese students with disabilities to purchase higher education. Their efforts ensure inclusion in higher education continues.
