EdTech-topia: the land of abundance and uncertainty
Kerry Pinny
Chapter 1 in How to Use Digital Learning with Confidence and Creativity, 2024, pp 9-16 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
As consumers, we find ourselves navigating a landscape of abundance and uncertainty. The digital learning technology market is no longer booming, it has exploded. There are technologies to do almost everything we can conceive of. Technologies to solve our every teaching and learning problem. The land is abundant, rich in choice. It is also uncertain, with the ground beneath our feet shifting, crumbling and reforming. How does a weary traveller avoid eating the poison berries or falling into gaping chasms? This chapter will explore the abundance of choice available to teachers and students. It will consider the uncertainty that results from technological change, the impact of technology choices and provide teachers with practices to support them to make judicious choices.
