Introduction to Case Studies on Nonprofit Resilience Management

Elizabeth A.M. Searing and Dennis R. Young

A chapter in Case Studies on Nonprofit Resilience Management, 2025, pp 1-16 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of case studies of 31 nonprofit organizations, in the arts, human services, education and youth development, philanthropy and membership associations, that have addressed recent, sometimes existential, challenges to their operations. The resilience strategies of these organizations span multiple aspects of nonprofit management including finance, human resources management, technological innovation, networking, entrepreneurship, leadership, governance, government relations and information systems. Suggestions are offered for employing these cases to teach important lessons about how nonprofit organizations can survive crises and be managed for long term resilience.
