Abstract: Emotional Intelligence has been a topic of interest concerning the evolving nature of work for over 35 years and continues to grow in relevance and application to the challenges of our increasingly complex and uncertain environment. The purpose of the Research Handbook on Emotional Intelligence at Work is to present a comprehensive and systematic overview of current conceptualization, research, and practical applications of emotional intelligence in the workplace with an eye toward the future. Contributing authors comprise some of the original research pioneers on emotional intelligence, along with newer international voices, to explore this enduring set of ideas from a variety of perspectives. The editor summarizes each of the 18 chapters contained in four major sections, progressing from theory and conceptualization to assessment and measurement methodologies, research studies, and implications for practice. The editor concludes by noting the connecting central themes of the chapters, including their common focus on human capacities and skills necessary to adapt to a rapidly changing and uncertain environment.
