Corporate social responsibility: A neuroscientific approach

Chapter 16 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 57-59 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) reflects an organisation's activities targeting wider social good, and can include its social, voluntary, stakeholder, environmental, and economic efforts. Neuroscientific research on CSR has been limited and has, for example, focused on connections between distinct patterns of neural activity and CSR investment, and relatedly, how interventions to modify specific brain region activity impact socially responsible investing. There has also been consumer-related research, such as looking at the neural mechanisms involved when processing CSR messages. Ultimately, innovative neuroscientific methods can be useful to increase the methodological rigour of quantitative CSR research and corroborate existing findings.
