Abstract:
Neuro-based rewards refer to intrinsic incentive systems which trigger specific brain regions responsible for hormone release. Depending on the stimuli, these may have a positive or a negative impact on the motivation and behaviour of an individual. Deeply rooted in neuroscience, neuropsychology and behavioural science, neuro-based rewards set the stage for an in-depth understanding of motivation and demotivation factors at the workplace. This entry further analyses the SCARF model, as well as adding two new dimensions to it: value and appreciation. Understanding these reward factors enables managers to increase productivity, enhance performance, and optimise motivation in the modern workplace.
