Abstract:
Resilience refers to the capacity to manage risks and adapt to adversity through biological, neurocognitive, and adaptive processes. Research has shifted from the physiology of stress to systems and processes—oxytocin, affiliative brain, and biobehavioral synchrony—that facilitate adaptation to social environments and challenges. Grounded in neuroplasticity, social connection, and meaning-making, resilience is best understood from a systemic view, reflecting interactions between actors and environments that sustain core functions and identity while enabling adaptation and reorganization. In workplaces, it represents an individual, team, and organizational capability fostering adaptability, learning, and performance under challenging circumstances. Organizational interventions enhancing resilience are discussed.
