Chapter 73 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 257-260 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Virtual reality is being increasingly adopted by organisations across various sectors. This entry offers key definitions of virtual reality and virtual reality technologies, and explores recent research on interactive experiences that bridge the virtual and real worlds. Virtual reality experiences have potential applications for promoting wellbeing at work. We discuss possible neuroscientific implications of immersive environments, including their effects on stress reduction and cognitive functioning, which are crucial aspects of health and productivity in the workplace. Finally, the entry summarises recent empirical studies, offering insights into the indirect impact and dark sides of using virtual reality in the workplace.
