Scaling the impact of commercialisation of Social Science, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy through the ARC Accelerator
Chris Fellingham
Chapter 9 in How to Scale Engagement and Impact in Universities, 2025, pp 92-101 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter looks into how the ARC Accelerator acts as one of the key support actors that enables the scaling of engagement and impact. The ARC Accelerator enhances SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) commercialisation in three key ways. Firstly, it catalyses the sector at every level through venture creation, researcher engagement, cultural transformation and knowledge sharing. Secondly, it raises awareness and visibility of SHAPE commercialisation beyond the sector by providing a centralised platform to showcase innovative ventures. Thirdly, it helps establish an identity for the emerging field of SHAPE commercialisation, preventing it from being subsumed into existing STEM-focused commercialisation programmes and policies ill suited for SHAPE researchers and their ventures. By addressing these dimensions, the ARC Accelerator fosters an environment conducive to the growth and success of SHAPE commercialisation initiatives.
