Abstract:
, Focusing on positive and increasing earnings as earnings target, this research examines the relation between top executive tenure and earnings management to meet earnings target. We find that the probability that top executives manage earnings to report positive or increasing earnings is higher in the early years of their service than in the later years. In addition, we find that the negative relation between top executive tenure and earnings management to meet earnings target is concentrated in the sample of top executive appointed from outside the firm.
