Abstract:
"The Italian government decided on major expenditure saving for the Italian citizens’ income called “Reditto di Cittadinanza” in August 2023. In order to finance promised tax cuts, the payments were reduced from 8 to 5 billion euro and the number of recipients by 40 percent. The IAB Forum editors interviewed the renowned Italian professors Paolo Barbieri, Marco Leonardi and Michele Raitano on how they judge the former programme, why they do not expect the current reform to succeed and what it needs to make an Italian citizens’ income work."
