Labour Employment in Romania’s Agriculture and Labour Productivity Increase. Gaps Between Romania and the European Union

Abstract: The present study intends to investigate the labour employment and productivity problems in Romania’s agricultural sector compared to the average level in the European Union and Member States, to reveal the gaps and the envisaged trends. For Romania, narrowing these gaps is a great challenge in order to reach a real convergence and for an efficient integration into the EU structures. Mainly the EUROSTAT and European Commission data are used in the analysis of gaps level and trends, which are based upon the official data of the EU Member States and a unitary calculation methodology; the data published by the statistical institutions from Romania, the economic research institutes of the Romanian Academy and of the Academy for Agricultural and Forestry Sciences are also used for this analysis.
