Abstract:
The connected teaching of English phonetics and vocabulary plays the fundamental role in enhancing the accuracy of students’ word pronunciation, facilitating their vocabulary learning and memorizing, and improving their English language skills. This article first puts forth the research question based on an overview of three common problems of learning English phonetics and vocabulary. It then argues how to teach English phonetics and vocabulary. Finally, strategies for the connected teaching of English phonetics and vocabulary are proposed- increasing students’ phonological awareness; systematic teaching of phonetic knowledge; allowing students to put knowledge into practice; splitting syllables to memorize words.
