Business model transition: gaming industry facing the challenge of the 5G technology

Abstract:
From the perspective of dynamic capabilities, this article aims to elucidate how digital capabilities, intertwined with dynamic capabilities, catalyse business model transition. We illustrate it in the gaming sector amidst the emergence of 5G technology. This qualitative research, based on multiple case studies and interpreted through content analysis, includes semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs and industry experts, complemented by reports from specialised companies. It analyses four gaming companies impacted by digital transformation. The study contributes theoretically by elucidating the transition business model driven by technological innovations within the perspective of Schumpeterian creative destruction. It offers significant managerial insights for leaders in the creative economy sectors, focusing on competitors' reactions to digital transformation and the transition to models based on streaming platforms.
