Abstract:
Research over the past several decades has demonstrated that long-term economic growth and in general, US economic well-being stems from innovation that either improves productivity or leads to new products, processes, or completely new industries. Human resources play a critical role in the technology transfer process - the commercialisation of new technology. This paper examines the various roles human resources play in developing new technology and then getting that technology from the lab to the marketplace. These roles can be grouped into several processes knowledge creation, organisational approaches, role of the user, and the existence of an advocate for technology transfer. Finally, studies conducted of technology transfer success stories confirm the central role human resources play in getting new technology from the lab to the marketplace.
