Decision Analysis, 2006, vol. 3, issue 2, 61-62

Abstract: This issue contains two articles describing applications of decision analysis to counter-terrorism risk management. The article by von Winterfeldt and O'Sullivan analyzes the cost-effectiveness of countermeasures to prevent surface-to-air missile attacks on civilian aircraft, while the article by Feng and Keller analyzes alternative strategies for the distribution of potassium iodide in response to a nuclear incident. Three other contributions follow: Tsetlin and Winkler analyze the relationship between target-based approaches to decision making and multiattribute utility functions. Butler, Dyer, and Jia compare and evaluate alternative methods for analyzing preferences when the decision maker is presented with a prespecified list of attributes. Finally, Howard, Matheson, Merkhofer, Miller, and North provide a historical comment on the development of influence diagrams within the Decision Analysis Group at the Stanford Research Institute.
