Abstract: The European Union, including as it appears in the form established by the Lisbon Treaty,supposes a unique combination of institutional elements, some of them of specific to the state type institutions, others taken from the institutional structure of international intergovernmental organizations and other origins. This survey is approaching the institutional side of European Union, analyzing the elements of originality of the institutional framework of the European Union in the period after the entry into force of the Treaty of Nice.
