Abstract:
This paper is based on an analysis centered on the following directions: 1. the identification of the behaviors of informing citizens; 2. the assessment, from the citizens’ perspective, of the information services provided by the public institutions; 3. the identification of the social needs of citizens; 4. the identification of the channels and ways, by which citizens wish to receive the information. Even though the people do no know whether in their residence place there is a public information point, possible explanations for this could be the following: the current services may be dysfunctional or non-functional, the current services may be inaccessible (to certain groups of the population) or they may be too specialized or unsatisfactory in that the information supply does not correspond to the information demand. However, on the other hand people may also consider such a service of information useful only from a theoretical point of view, without having any experience in practice or an interest in using such services. Even if a new service is founded or an already existent service is improved, whether this service is independent or subordinated, the mayoralty should focus the attention (and funds) on the satisfaction of the information needs of citizens.
