Abstract:
The revamping of the Washington Consensus includes a deepened interest in microfinance. Indeed, the recent winner of the Nobel Peace Prize was a pioneer in microenterprise development. This economist warns that worldwide institutional sponsorship of microfinance may be a new form of "charity washing".
