Abstract: The paper reviews the researches made by the Department for Territorial Systems Studies, IEIE SB RAS for nearly 40 years. The author puts emphasis on those which were of actual continuity during all the period of the Department’s work and which could be considered as a scientific potential of this Department. The author also presents his retrospective analysis of the problems under study concerning the development of territorial systems of different levels as well as how such problems are resolved at present.
