Abstract: ITER est un projet de recherche dont l’objet est de démontrer la faisabilité scientifique et technique de l’utilisation de la fusion comme nouvelle source d’énergie. Après les réalisations de grands Tokamaks1 tels que le JT60 au Japon, TFTR (Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor) aux États-Unis, le JET (Joint European Torus) en Grande Bretagne et Tore Supra en France, ce projet est la dernière étape de recherche avant la construction d’un prototype industriel utilisant les réactions de fusion pour produire de l’électricité, à l’horizon 2040-2050.
