Abstract: The article analyses the necessities and requirements of the Romanian small and medium enterprises in order to identify the main policy priorities for supporting their internationalization. Having considered the role and necessity of small and medium enterprises internationalization policies, the main policy directions are discussed. Since in the case of Romania, an important part of the problems associated to supporting small and medium enterprises development and internationalization is related to the lack of resources, a special focus is put on the policy priorities providing resources for internationalization.
