Abstract: The purpose of the present paper is to make a brief presentation of what human development means in Romania. There are a variety of approaches to measure and monitor different aspects of poverty and human development in general, for our purpose we selected the synthetic indicators proposed by United Nation Development Programs, we will analyze the trend recorded by them and we will compare the position of our country in the European and global scale in terms of development.
