An Empirical Approach of Corporate Environmental Responsibility in Romania

Abstract: The aim of the present research paper is to investigate the corporate environmental responsibility (CER) in Romania, by taking into account a series of 24 relevant best practices examples in the field. First part of the paper analyses the concept of CER in close relationship with corporate social responsibility (CSR), by emphasizing the role of governments and companies in environ-mental protection. The main components, evaluation stages and common challenges associated with CER are briefly presented in the second part of the paper. Third part of the paper appoints the environmental responsibility in the European Union from the national public policies point of view, meanwhile fourth part of the paper presents an empirical evaluation of CER in Romania, with a special focus on supported issues and allocated budgets during 2006-2010 period. The paper ends with a set of conclusions and recommendations for strengthening CER in Romania.
