Abstract: The paper tries to identify employment patterns in the EU countries, taking into consideration the educational intensity of employment. Using EUROSTAT data, the paper presents a descriptive analysis of the distribution of skills (measured by educational attainment) and employment share by skills levels (from high to low) and by 10 groups of occupations for the EU countries. Differences in distribution of employment across occupations are analysed across EU countries and an evidence of changes in educational intensity of employment over 2000-2011 is provided. The possible patterns of employment are identified by comparing the skill distribution of jobs in each country with the basic shape of distribution in the EU as a whole. There are 4 different patterns of employment by educational level found among the european countries.
