Abstract: The growing importance that tourism has gained in the contemporary era has increased theconcerns of the specialists to define it as accurately and as thoroughly as possible. In variousforms, tourism connections to the economy are often multiple and difficult to fully assess. Underthese circumstances, the knowledge of economic implications at macroeconomic level concernedand continues to concern not only the academic environment but also the public authorities or therepresentative organizations of the private sector. Cohesive information is needed in order toreflect the situation of tourism as a sector of activity, its place in the economy. This informationsubstantiates sectoral policies as well as strategic decisions in the field. Their finality will bereflected in greater respect for the business community by the business community, central andlocal authorities, and last but not least by public opinion in general. Tourism presents itself as a complex activity with a multitude of facets, with an importanteconomic load, positioned at the intersection of several branches and sectors of the economy. Because of this fact, there is also a wide variety of views on the content of the concept of tourismand its adjacent concepts.
