Abstract: Abstract One of the most dramatic dimensions of the current economic problems is the level of unequal income distribution across the globe. According to a recent UNCTAD Trade and Development Report (2012), rising income inequality has become “a feature of the past three decades”. The problem of inequality surfaces not only in underdeveloped countries, but also in the developed world. In most developed countries, Gini coefficients increased between 1980 and 2000 whereas in all developing regions, there was a general rise in inequality over the same period, with an increase in the concentration of wealth in the higher-income sections of the population (UNCTAD, 2012).
