Chapter Chapter 7 in Brands & Gaming, 2006, pp 87-100 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The sums of money involved in the gaming industry are awesome. You can get a feel for it from a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation. At the moment, a publisher like Electronic Arts might reckon to sell about 10 million copies of a top game title, which would retail at roughly $40 per copy. So at retail, that one title might generate $400 million globally. With gaming growing as strongly as it is now, it’s not unreasonable to suggest that in three years’ time a top title might sell as many as 25 million copies: in other words, a single game title could generate a cool $1 billion!
