Reducing Violence, the New Role of Top Executive

Sylvie Roussillon

Chapter 35 in Handbook of Top Management Teams, 2010, pp 321-329 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Among the many roles expected of the top executive, reducer of violence is seldom mentioned, although it is perhaps one of the finest and the most human. Violence is in fact a source of suffering;1 a force that obliges and binds, an irresistible and dangerous power, difficult to contain, and which causes pain:2 we shall show how the top executive holds the power to regulate it, to diminish the violence associated with company life, as we identify six levels of action at which he can operate.
