The Phenomenological Approach and Action
Beverley Stone
Chapter 9 in Confronting Company Politics, 1997, pp 107-112 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Individuals frequently hold back from asserting their own opinion and contradicting those of others, because they are afraid of getting it wrong and not being liked, as was noted in the Chapter 8. If the organisation is to use the potential of all the people in it, individuals have to stop this self-image actualising. One step in this direction is to confront the fantasy that there is a ‘right’ answer, that there is an authority that holds the monopoly on what is the ‘truth’ or ‘perfect’. There has never been a truth, there will never be a truth and reminding themselves can help individuals take the risk of saying what they believe.
