Abstract: Abstract In customer care psychology ‘social age’ is as important as calendar age. It was only in the nineteenth century with the spread of industrialisation that this distinction began to take hold. The emergence of a middle class in the industrial societies of Britain, the United States and Western Europe brought into being formally organised schools for the young. This resulted in ‘childhood’ becoming a clearly definable life-stage.
