Abstract: Abstract The collection of consultation methods should be regarded as a toolbox from which participants can take a range of different tools to help them work on different issues, problems and cases. One difference compared with ordinary tools is that participants in consultation can, in principle, tackle each issue raised in a variety of different ways. Nevertheless, the methods differ widely in use, and a particular type of issue is often better taken forward using one method than another. In addition, there are advantages to be gained in changing methods frequently (variety, creativity), but there are also advantages in working extensively with the same method (depth, trust).
