Abstract: Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. Indiana, located in the East North Central region of the United States, has a population of 6.1 million people, making it the fifteenth most populous state in 2005. The state’s population increased by 12,887 people from 2000 to 2005, and is projected to increase to 6.7 million by 2025. This 0.5 percent projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 1.0 percent. Per capita personal income in Indiana was $31,150 in 2005, ranking seventeenth lowest in the country and $3,345 below the national average. From 2000 to 2005 per capita income in Indiana grew at an average annual rate of 2.8 percent, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
