Abstract: Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. Missouri, located in the West North Central region of the United States, has a population of 5.6 million people, making it the eighteenth most populous state in 2005. The state’s population increased by 36,699 people from 2000 to 2005, and is projected to increase to 6.3 million by 2025. This 0.6 percent projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 1.0 percent. Per capita personal income in Missouri was $31,299 in 2005, ranking the twentieth lowest in the country and $3,196 below the national average. From 2000 to 2005 per capita income in Missouri grew at an average annual rate of 2.8 percent, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
