Horizontal Process Redesign at CGC

Magne Y. Orgland

Chapter 8 in Initiating, Managing and Sustaining Strategic Change, 1997, pp 176-196 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Horizontal process redesign has a long history at Consumer Goods Corporation. In the manufacturing function, CGC has pursued work simplification based on industrial engineering methods for decades. With the Delivering Superior Value initiative, horizontal process redesign moved into new areas of the organization. The DSV project included the redesign of several high-level processes such as the innovation process and the customer management process. Finally, after CGC’s mid-course correction in the DSV programme, horizontal-process redesign became an even stronger area of focus. CGC established a group of internal experts on work process change and developed a common company-wide methodology.
