Chapter 5 in Managing Manufacturing Operations: A Casebook, 1978, pp 49-69 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The machine shop is the focal point of the activity of the Engineering Division of the Midland Components Manufacturing Company based in Manchester. The total facilities of the Engineering Division consist of the machine shop, a tool shop and a machine erection shop, with various storage points. The turnover of these three shops in 1972 was respectively £1,150,000, £274,000 and £330,000. The machine shop provides the tool shop with pre-cut blanks for tool manufacture and the machine erection shop with machine parts; it also supplies the finished goods stores with machine parts for stock or spares for customers.
