The Asian Advantage: A Modular Approach to Business Agility

Joseph A. DiVanna

Chapter Chapter 11 in Redefining Financial Services, 2002, pp 106-109 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Asian financial services companies are presented with an opportunity to leapfrog their western counterparts by leveraging technology to establish a greater reach of services. This opportunity stems from the reduced amount of infrastructure that exists within and between financial services organizations operating in the Asian theatre and is clearly a competitive advantage. Strategically, less infrastructure means that there are fewer components of legacy technology to undo in order to integrate newer technologies into improving client services. This short-lived phenomenon gives Asian financial services organizations two opportunities to gain a competitive advantage: increase the ability to compete by leveraging technology infrastructures, and develop a strategic perspective on the returns from technology investments.
