Abstract:
The research of bilingual hodonyms (names of streets) brings interesting findings not only from historical but also from linguistic point of view. The comparison between Czech and German hodonyms, which in Prague were used simultaneously for several centuries, shows that Czech names were conveyed into two ways: on the basis of sound assimilation and translation. The linguistic analysis of the above mentioned hodonyms reveals orthographic, word-forming and lexical peculiarities and differences.
