Abstract: The evolution of labor resources has been influenced by demographic changes, such as emigration and an accelerated fertility decrease; an overall activity rate increase (higher for men), an increasing share of highly qualified labor, and by important changes in employment by economic sector and branch (mainly between 1990 and 1996) due to the economic restructuring process. Thus, the share of employment in the private sector has grown. Analyzing the structure of population by professional status, the share of employees decreased in favor of the self-employed and family workers. Also, an increase in underemployment and unemployment has been recorded, especially for women.
