Abstract:
In this paper, we paint a portrait of the evolution of retirement incomes over the last 20 years, and highlight some of the burning policy questions we think are important and deserve in our view more research. We also discuss the potential outlook for retirement incomes in decades to come under the current retirement income system. Our analysis leads us to conclude that seniors have done well in the last decades and that the retirement income system has met both its income replacement and poverty alleviation objectives quite well, but that the changing landscape will soon expose cracks which policymakers should address now rather than later.
