Abstract: In the article the essence of the strategic union, identified causes and reasons for their creation, outlined the advantages of cooperation with strategic partners in the strategic alliance. The role of strategic unions in the efficiency of rail transport. For rail transport the main partners for the creation of a strategic union at the present stage can be a company in the field of storage, rendering services in the field of import / export, information processing, organization of transport, customs, terminals, insurance companies, banks and other providers of related services, as well as potential competitors. Marked features of the cooperation partners in the strategic union, as well as competitive advantages which they derived from their interaction within the union.
