Chapter 3 in Mathematical Location and Land Use Theory, 2003, pp 67-99 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In Chapter 2 we discussed the derivation of optimal flow lines for various economic flows, such as those of traded commodities. The complete specification of these flows requires not only the direction to be given, but the volume as well. As a rule both change from one location in space to another.
