Chapter 11 in Sustainable Cities and Energy Policies, 1999, pp 249-264 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The concept of urban sustainability is not a simple panacea for all environmental city concerns. It is a complex and multi-faceted concept which cannot be simply equated with urban environmental policy or green urban movement. The idea of a sustainable city refers to the future of the city, to effective local policy-making at the interface of economic, social and environmental objectives with a view to long-term continuity of the urban area.
