Chapter Chapter 10 in Casinonomics, 2013, pp 111-136 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Psychologists and medical researchers publish an enormous amount of research on the diagnosis and treatment of “pathological” gambling. This term is used to describe gambling that is far beyond recreational gambling. It represents gambling, for the person involved, to such an extent that it causes problems in their personal and/or professional life. Pathological gambling is a specific condition included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), which is the “primary classification system for diagnosing mental disorders in the United States” (Petry 2010).
