Chapter 2 in Measuring Productivity in Education and Not-for-Profits, 2021, pp 15-27 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter familiarizes the reader with concepts and applications of inputs and outputs as they relate to conducting a productivity assessment. It uses two hypothetical school districts as a case study for measurement and benchmarking. The tutorial in this chapter demonstrates how to clean and prepare institutional data for analysis. It establishes common data structures that will be used for the remainder of the book. It then leads the reader through an indicative example of using institutional inputs and outputs to generate productivity insights and visualize results.
